5 Djibouti Proverbs and a Strange Law You Need to Know
Djibouti is known for fascinating diving, marine life. Lake Assal, a crater lake in the centre of Djibouti, is 10 times saltier than the sea. In fact, it’s the second saltiest body of water in the world after Don Juan Pond in Antarctica. It’s also the lowest point in Africa.
Djibouti is home to the bizarre dystopian landscape of Lac Abbé, a plateau dotted with hundreds of limestone chimneys, some standing 50m (160ft) high and belching puffs of steam. Approximately 90% of Djibouti’s land is desert.

Djibouti, a tiny country in Northeast Africa, is situated at the gateway to the Suez Canal, one of the world's busiest shipping routes. While its location is an economic commodity for a country that’s half unemployed, it also puts it at the center of a multinational fight against pirates in Somalia and terrorist groups. NewsHour Weekend Special Correspondent Martin Seemungal reports on foreign nations’ interests in Djibouti.

Djibouti is a country located in the Horn of Africa, bordered by Somalia to the South, Ethiopia to the South West, Eritrea in the North, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden to the East.

Yemenis find refuge in Africa’s Djibouti
Djibouti is facing its own problems with poverty in spite of large foreign investments in recent years, and now it is making an effort to welcome some 40,000 Yemenis who have moved there to escape the war at home.
The tiny Horn of Africa state of Djibouti is now home to more than 40,000 Yemenis who have fled their war-torn country.
In spite of Djibouti’s own economic struggle, the people and government are making a sincere effort to welcome these people and to consider them a group that could drive significant economic growth for the country.
The Yemeni refugees started in a camp, but have been registered and allowed to work and have since moved to the capital to earn a living.

Every African country has something special that we always wish to discover daily. Today, we shall be talking about a country that is internationally known as a geopolitical treasure, and an important area for military activities. This country is no other than Djibouti.
Djibouti is a country located in the Horn of Africa, bordered by Somalia to the South, Ethiopia to the South West, Eritrea in the North, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden to the East.
Tremendous and influential countries of the world like; France, Italy, China, Japan, and the U.S, amongst others, have installed naval and airbases in Djibouti, simply because the country is strategically located at the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, which separates the Gulf of Aden from the Red Sea, and controls the approaches to the Suez Canal.
Establishing military bases in Djibouti enables these countries to project power, conduct expeditionary warfare, and influence events abroad.
Depending on their sizes and infrastructures, these bases are used as staging areas for logistical, communication, and intelligence support.

Al Jazeera’s Mohammed Adow reports from Djibouti.
